Surface preparation

When you spray, you need to make sure you're doing the correct wall preparation and masking all surfaces correctly. Firstly you need to clean the surface with detergent. If there is any loose paint or rust on the surface, you should remove it with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper. If you are working with glossy surfaces, make sure to sand with fine grain sandpaper and wipe with a tack cloth. Once you have properly prepared the surface, you’re ready to start painting!

Airless Sprayers

Airless sprayers are the most commonly used for painting purposes. They use their own internal piston to create the force required to push the paint out. When compared to applying paint with a roller, the airless sprayer method consumes more paint. However, it also gets the job done at a much faster rate - which is key if you are under time constraints! An airless paint sprayer leaves you with professional-looking results at a fraction of the time it would take to paint using a brush or paint roller.

The Masking Process

Before you use your paint sprayer, it is important to mask the surrounding areas that you do not want to paint. Because using a paint sprayer results in a significant amount of spray paint, you should ensure that your belongings are properly protected. Masking can be considered a process within itself. It includes:

  • Removing all the small items from a room
  • Moving the remaining furniture, cabinets, etc. into the middle of the room and covering them with plastic drop cloth.
  • Removing light switches and outlet covers and putting painter's tape over the switches.
  • Masking off windows, doors, and trim with painter's tape and plastic
  • Cover the floor board and flooring with plastic sheeting
